Instructions
- Select patterned papers to cover letters. Place CS and letters face down and trace around letters using sharp pencil. Repeat with CS selected for back side of letters. Trim around pencil lines with cutting knife & mat or scissors.
- Cover work surface with newspaper and place paper mache letters on top. Using black acrylic paint and foam brush, paint the outside edges of letters, followed by the inside. Make sure to extend paint around to front and back sides approx. 1/8” – 1/4” from edge.
- Use Glue Glider™ Max with a ½” or 1” cartridge to apply adhesive to front side of letter. (Note: If you don’t presently own a Max, you can substitute a Glue Glider™ Pro, but it will require more adhesive to cover the surface.) Line up papers on top and adhere to letters. Place on top of cutting mat and trim any excess paper from edges using blade.
- Wrap 3 decorative ribbons around the letters to measure length. Trim ½” longer to allow for overlap. Apply ribbon adhesive to back of each ribbon according to directions on the packaging. Remove clear liner and apply to edges of letters starting and finishing the overlap on the bottom.
- Now use your own creativity to decorate the letters using stickers, stamps and journaling elements from the Cosmo Cricket Haunted collection along with spider webbing and any other Halloween embellishments you would like to add.. Glue Arts has just the right adhesives to adhere each to your project.
- Tip: When figuring out placement of the elements, try using the repositionable adhesive to experiment with temporary placement
- Because some of my elements would extend beyond the edges of the letters and be seen from the back, I mounted them onto black or white cardstock and trimmed borders around the self-adhesive diecuts with a cutting knife and adhered them using my Glue Glider™ Pro with High Tac adhesive.
- Tip: Use repositionable adhesive to temporarily attach to letter, then mark placement with pencil on front. Flip letter over and mark areas that should be void of adhesive on back side of diecut piece. Remove repositionable adhesive with your fingertip, apply high tac adhesive to back of element and apply to project.
- When adhering elements with Glue Arts adhesives, attach items closest to paper (base) and add layered elements one at a time on top of one another using adhesive of choice.
Adding the Picket Fences:
- Squeeze white ink or paint onto the pickets of wooden fence pieces.
- Use flat bristle brush to spread paint onto pickets. Brush top to bottom until covered. Add paint if necessary. Allow to dry. Use a piece of sponge with Close to Cocoa and Black inks to add some distressing to fences.
- Use strips of Ribbon Adhesive on the back side of fencing to attach to project. If you are hanging off the edge of a letter, leave those areas without adhesive on back side. Apply strips acoss fence, remove clear liners then add strips down the pickets. Remove liners and adhere to project
Creating Movable Legs on Skeleton:
- Mount adhesive skeleton diecut to black CS. Trim around skeleton with cutting knife and mat.
- Trim skeleton above knee and punch holes using 1/16” punch at bottom of trimmed legs and at top of 2 loose leg pieces. Insert black brads to connect pieces.
- When attaching skeleton to letter, only apply adhesive above brad area to make legs moveable.
Finishing Touches & Tips:
- To add to the spookiness, dip sponge in black ink and rub around edges of trimmed elements prior to attaching to project.
- Wrap fibers under and around elements. Tuck ends behind embellishments. Do the same with webbing. Create trick or treat bag from CS, fiber (handle) and ribbon (attached bow).
- Use your own creativity to decorate to your own style!!
